With Black Friday coming later this week, we know we might not be able to persuade you to avoid the Black Friday sales altogether - but there are steps you can take to make the most out of the reductions with minimal damage to your wallet.
That's why this week, we're sharing our ultimate do's and dont's to ensure you don't spend any money you'll later regret.
1) Do Your Research
Always research in advance for the item you want to buy & use comparison sites to see which retailers are offering the best reductions.
Whatever you do, don't buy anything you didn't need before and don't shop without first making a list of what's essential - and what could be reallocated to the Christmas wishlist, for now.
2) Compare Prices
Use a price tracker website like PriceRunner and PriceSpy to make sure you're really getting a good deal. Sometimes you'll find the cheapest deals around two weeks before Black Friday, as retailers raise their prices then bring them back down to their regular value to make it seem like you're getting a decent price.
Just don't believe every bargain you see: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
3) Use Extra Discounts
You might think you won't be able to get any additional discounts on an already 'reduced' Black Friday offer, but this isn't always the case.
Shop through a cashback website like TopCashback and use online discount code sites such as MyVoucherCodes to find vouchers for the retailer you’re buying from, then use them together with the sale price to get even more money off. Just don't forget to read all T&Cs on an offer before you buy - some promotions can be intentionally misleading to get you to spend your money!
4) Set a Spending Limit
Going shopping without a budget on Black Friday is like going to buy groceries when you're hungry - you'll want to buy everything without caring too much about the costs until later when you see the receipts!
Use a prepaid card app like ImageNPay to help you stick to your budget and spend within your limit - your digital card can be used for both in-person shopping (with Apple Pay and Google Pay) and online shopping. And unless you can pay off the balance in full when it's due, resist the urge to put it all on a credit card!
If you’re in need of a tool to help you control your spending this Black Friday, an ImageNPay prepaid card could be the answer.
Top up your personalised card with an allowance you set - you won’t be able to spend more than what you have topped up on the card and can keep your Black Friday budget separate from your main bank account!
